Two things always surprise me about Bollywood. First, the industry churns out over 2,500 films every single year, and let’s be honest, 90% of them are guaranteed flops. Second, that remaining 10%? They are genuinely mind-blowing.
Today we are talking about Vibe, and seeing exactly which category this new release falls into.
The Spoiler-Free Story
The story kicks off in the neat, disciplined home of Bugs (Sparsh Shrivastava). Bugs is a software engineer who loves his corporate job and is perfectly content with his routine. But he has one major mission: fixing the messy life of his friend and older brother figure, Hardik (Kunal Khemu), who has just returned from rehab.
Being a good friend, Bugs lands Hardik a job in his company’s marketing department. There, Hardik meets Kareena. The two head out for their first date, and boom—a massive box of problems bursts wide open. What starts as a simple corporate rom-com quickly spirals, and soon, Bugs and Hardik find themselves saving the country from a dangerous attack under the supervision of Madam H (Preity G Zinta), Yashpal Sharma, and Dinesh Lal Yadav.
What the Film is Really About
On paper, the plot might sound a bit light, but the absolute best part of this film is how organically everything is executed. Vibe seamlessly blends everyday corporate life with unexpected sci-fi super-soldier elements. You get high-stakes fights, but you also get punchlines landing perfectly every two minutes. It is a wildly entertaining genre mashup that somehow makes perfect sense on screen.
Direction and Screenplay
Written and directed by Kunal Khemu, this film proves he is a filmmaker to watch. Vibe is one of those rare cinematic gems that knows exactly how to hit the nerve of its audience. Whether you are a Gen-Z viewer or a Millennial, the writing caters to everyone. Khemu’s pacing ensures that you are constantly engaged, delivering a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
Performances
The acting across the board is phenomenal. Sparsh Shrivastava and Kunal Khemu anchor the film with fantastic comedic timing.
But the biggest surprise? Dinesh Lal Yadav. Usually, it’s hard for anyone to stand out when sharing the screen with a veteran like Yashpal Sharma, but Dinesh Lal Yadav is absolutely solid here. He delivers such a brilliant performance that it left me thinking he desperately needs to be cast in more mainstream Bollywood films.
What Works
The Comedy: It is top-tier. Every single actor nails their comic beats.
The Interval Block: It is rare these days to see a movie with a genuinely exciting hook right before the interval, but Vibe pulls it off brilliantly.
Smart Pacing: The film reveals its core premise in the first ten minutes, yet the story execution is so strong that you stay hooked the whole time.
The Subtlety: The Pakistani connection in the plot is handled so subtly. The scene wraps up and moves the story forward before you even have a chance to get bored.
The Climax: Whatever you think is going to happen at the end, expect something completely different. It is highly unpredictable and totally satisfying.
What Doesn’t Work
Over-The-Top Logic: The reason behind Kunal Khemu’s action sequences feels a bit over-the-top. However, it completely fits the wacky tone of the movie, making it totally bearable and highly enjoyable at the same time.
Technical Aspects
The background score during the action sequences deserves a special shoutout. Watching Preity G Zinta kick behinds with the iconic Soldier title track playing in the background is incredibly cool. It gives you an instant rush of 90s nostalgia while elevating the entire sequence.
The Verdict
I’m reminded of a comment Soha Ali Khan made during the Vibe press conference. She said that whether it’s a birthday or a funeral, Kunal will not let you leave without making you laugh. After watching Vibe, I can fully attest that she was 100% right. Once the credits roll, the entire theater is going to be laughing like crazy.
Knowing for a fact that Vibe 2 is already on the way just makes this entire experience even better. Don’t miss this one!
