“Masoom,” directed by Shekhar Kapur, is a cinematic gem transcending mere box office numbers. It was released in 1983, and to this day, it remains a timeless story of love, forgiveness, and family that resonates with audiences of all ages. Its value isn’t limited to numbers; its emotional impact on viewers measures it. This classic film truly touches hearts and continues to leave a profound effect, proving that the power of storytelling and emotional connection in cinema is truly enduring.
Earlier, Shekhar Kapur took to Instagram to express his thoughts on the value of a home, “In Hindi, the word for home is Ghar and for House is Makaan, but I couldn’t find a word that captures the genuine emotion of Property. A home is more than just a physical structure – it stores memories, feelings, and life experiences. It’s where we celebrate festivals, create memories with loved ones, and even shed tears. How do you value your home? As a mere property or a place that holds a special place in your heart? It’s interesting to think about when a home became a house and when a place became property. And then there’s real estate – when did it all become about monetary value? Our world is obsessed with money, whether Oppenheimer vs. Barbie at the box office or trying to figure out which film will make the most money. But what about emotional value? What happened to assessing the value of something from the heart rather than just by how much it’s worth? Take the example of Masoom – I have no idea how much money it made, but I know that generations have been moved by it. Masoom’s value lies in the bank of emotion it has created over the years. It’s a reminder that we need to start valuing things differently – not just by their monetary worth but by the emotional value they bring to our lives.”
Shekhar Kapur has been making waves lately, receiving prestigious awards and accolades for his work in the film industry. Recently, he was honored with the “Lifetime Contribution to UK-India Relations” award at the IGF’s UK-India Awards. In addition, his recent movie, What’s Love Got To Do With It?, won the ‘Best Director Award’ and the National Film Awards UK. Kapur is currently working on several projects, one of which involves contributing to the music score for the upcoming film ‘Masoom… The Next Generation.’ It’s exciting to see what he’ll come up with next!
