Every year around this time, Mother’s Day brings with it new accounts of the selflessness and love that moms may exhibit. Mothers actually give up their entire lives for their children, despite the fact that just one day a year is hardly enough to make up for all that they do. There are mothers who adore their own kids without reservation, and there are honorary mothers who take on the responsibility of raising kids who may not be biologically theirs but who nevertheless mean the world to them. Liza Malik, an actress and singer, is one such mother who raised her younger sibling as if he were her own child, even going so far as to formally adopt him. Let’s get to know her more as she discusses being a mother to her brother and her two dogs, whom she loves just as much as human babies this Mother’s Day.

My mom struggled as a single parent after my brother and I lost our father at a young age, so I formally adopted my brother when he was in the first grade, which was 17 or 18 years ago. I made sure to structure my life around his school and growing-up routine because I never wanted him to be sad about growing up without a father. So that I wouldn’t have to divide my love and divert my concentration from him, I even put off getting pregnant till he graduates.

With her two dogs, whom she loves more than anything else in the world, Liza Malik also acts as a devoted mother. She claims, “As far as my four-legged babies go, I have one 16-year-old cocker spaniel who is over 90 years old in human years and Emma who is currently the talk of the town thanks to her Instagram post. She entered my life after my miscarriage eight months ago, and I believe that my relationship to her is karmic because she filled the void left by the loss of my kid. I literally can’t love without her since I’m so devoted to her. I travel with her, dine with her, and sleep with her. I’m aware that some people may think I’m a little too possessive of my dogs, but that’s just who I am.
