The Bollywood actor and philanthropist recently got to know a Katihar engineer who quit his work to start a school for children who were abandoned and named it after Sonu Sood. For children from families with lower incomes, Sood will build a new building and fund higher education.

Sonu Sood was shocked to learn in February of this year that Birendra Kumar Mahato, a 27-year-old Bihar engineer, had resigned his full-time job to open a school for orphaned children, and even had the actor’s name on it. The actor met Mahato and the 110 children at the school, which also serves as a shelter house, and was moved by his efforts to give free education and food to them.

The actor spent time with Mahato to understand the needs of the school, from ration to quality education, building awareness to bridging the education gap between rich and poor. By the end of the day, Sonu Sood has started work on new building for the school so that it can house more underprivileged children, and ensure there is food for every child in the school.

The actor stated that one of the best ways to combat poverty is to increase access to education. “Our goal is to provide educational chances for kids from underprivileged backgrounds so they are able to apply with greater success for jobs. We are attempting to increase access to higher education. Since this school also serves as a night shelter, nutrition and general health are also crucial factors.” the actor added.
Almost 10,000 children are currently receiving education from Sood across the nation.
